Becoming a mother is a transformative journey that brings immense joy and fulfillment. However, amidst the endless diaper changes, late-night feedings, and playdates, it’s easy for moms to put their personal style on the back burner. But who says you can’t be a stylish mom? With a few simple tips and tricks, you can maintain your fashion flair while embracing the beautiful chaos of motherhood.
- Embrace Comfort without Sacrificing Style
As a mom, comfort is key, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on style. Invest in versatile pieces like well-fitted jeans, flowy tops, and chic sneakers that allow you to move with ease while still looking effortlessly put together. Opt for soft fabrics and stretchy materials that provide both comfort and style.
- Build a Functional Wardrobe
Streamline your wardrobe by focusing on versatile, mix-and-match pieces that can take you from playdates to meetings with ease. Invest in wardrobe staples like a classic blazer, tailored trousers, and a versatile little black dress that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. This way, you’ll always have stylish options at your fingertips without feeling overwhelmed by choice.
- Incorporate Statement Accessories
Elevate even the simplest of outfits with statement accessories that reflect your personal style. Whether it’s a bold statement necklace, a vibrant scarf, or a chic handbag, accessories are a quick and easy way to add personality to your look. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different textures, colors, and prints to infuse your outfits with flair.
- Prioritize Self-Care
Taking care of yourself is essential for maintaining your sense of style as a mom. Make time for self-care rituals like skincare, exercise, and relaxation to look and feel your best. When you prioritize your well-being, you’ll exude confidence and radiate effortless style no matter what the day throws at you.
- Embrace Practical Beauty
With limited time on your hands, opt for beauty routines that are quick, easy, and practical. Invest in multitasking products like tinted moisturizers, cream blushes, and tinted lip balms that provide instant refreshment with minimal effort. A simple, polished makeup look paired with a stylish hairstyle will help you look and feel put together in no time.
We took time to speak to 2 incredibly stylish mums Ziis and Zoë on how they manage to keep the style fires burning amidst the motherhood mayhem.
Bantu: What advice would you give another mom struggling to maintain her style after having kids?
ZiiS: Give yourself grace. There’s probably a lot going on right now. However, don’t forget that you should be at the top of your priority list. Your style may change with your changing responsibilities – but don’t compromise on feeling and looking good.
Bantu: How do you make time to focus on your appearance as a busy mom? What self-care tips do you have?
ZiiS: We all have the same 24 hours. It’s what you do with yours that counts. That being said I have loads of help from hubby and my “village”. I’ve found that exercising an hour a day has significantly improved my mental health. I wake up at 4.30 am on most days to start my day at the gym. I am happier, more energised, and focused. The occasional spa treat also lifts my mood. Self-care is anything that makes you feel lighter and happier, find what does that for you, dedicate time to making it happen and you will see a massive change in how you feel.
Bantu: How has your style evolved from before you had kids vs. now? What stays the same and what must change?
Zoë: I’ve always liked to be experimental with my style. Before being a mum my style was more bold and rough. Now I experiment with elegance. I love finding ways to sprinkle some fun into a simple elegant look
I will always be experimental, so that stays the same. What has changed is my styling, from funky to classy
Being a mom doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your personal style. By embracing comfort, building a functional wardrobe, incorporating statement accessories, prioritizing self-care, and embracing practical beauty, you can maintain your fashion flair while navigating the beautiful chaos of motherhood. So go ahead, rock that stylish mom look with confidence and grace!
