Dumebi Iyamah the Canadian based Nigerian who is the visionary behind Andrea Iyamah collection line. The Andrea Iyamah brand produces items that celebrate the eccentric African culture as well as ready to wear custom-made event dresses. Like most designers, designing is like a calling to Dumebi as she started her love for fashion from a very young age where she developed tailoring skills at 12 years and eventually launched her clothing line at a tender age of 17 years. The 26-year-old has shown commitment and tenacity over the years managing to grow her brand to the mammoth house it is today and still gaining momentum.
She is the last born of 6 and fueled by her drive and passion, she remembers how she saved up some money to buy her first sewing machine. Her very first collection consisted of only 2 items; a jacket and shorts and had her sister was her model, a typical case of working with what you have. Her involvement is intricate as it goes from designing/sketching all the way to the final creation of the end detail of the garment. Her work ethic inspires and encourages other youths to get up and go after their dreams. Dumebi’s story shows how passion can lead a person to their greatest expression of themselves. It is time to own our worth and wealth as Africans and convert our resources to wealth ownership for generations.
