How To Pick the Best Colors for Your Skin Tone

Finding Colors That Complement Your Skin Tone

Selecting the right colors for your skin tone can really step up your style game. But with so many hues to choose from, how do you know which ones will look best? Here are some tips for finding colors that complement different skin tones.

Determining Your Undertone

The first step is identifying your skin’s undertone. Look at the veins on your wrist. If they appear more blue, you likely have a cool undertone. More green? That indicates a warm undertone. Can’t tell? Then you probably have a neutral skin tone.

Your skin shade doesn’t necessarily determine your undertone. Both light and dark complexions can be either cool, warm, or neutral.

Best Colors for Cool Undertones

If you have a cool undertone, deep shades like charcoal, navy, plum, and emerald green will make your complexion pop. Stay away from washed out pastels and stick to richer hues. While red may not work for very fair skin, those with an alabaster complexion can pull off a bold crimson.

Best Colors for Warm Undertones

Those with warm undertones look great in brighter, lighter colors. White, sand, peach, coral, and sky blue will all complement and accentuate this skin tone. Avoid matching green, olive, or mustard shades too closely, as they can make you look washed out.

Best Colors for Neutral Undertones

Lucky you – with a neutral undertone, you can experiment freely with most colors. However, balance bold hues like cobalt or jade with a neutral shade so your outfit doesn’t become too chaotic. Avoid straight black and navy, which won’t contrast clearly with your skin.

 Most Flattering Colors for Everyone

While color preferences vary by undertone, a few hues tend to look great on all skin tones. Richer shades of blue, purple, red, and green give fair and dark complexions alike a healthy glow. Just stay mindful of shade depth and brightness. Ultimately, wear what makes you feel confident – that’s always in style.
